The AI tools: what they are and what they refuse

Nine tools in two places, what each one reads, the rule that stops them inventing figures, and what each one costs you.

The AI on this platform lives in two places and they are not the same kind of thing.

What each tool costs

There are three separate meters and it is worth knowing which one is going to stop you.

Your plan	Whether a tool runs for you at all. Each tool has a feature key your plan either carries or does not.	Assess is on the free tier. Everything else needs Insider. See Accounts and plans.
A daily allowance	How many AI requests you may make in one day across every tool, counted from midnight UTC.	Insider carries 200 a day. An account with no plan falls back to the platform default, which is 10 a day. A cached answer and a refusal both cost you nothing.
AI credits	A separate balance that four actions can spend: Assess, the clarification drafter, the assessment export and a requirement checklist.	Buying credits yourself is not available today. If your plan carries the feature, the action is free and no credit is spent. If you need a balance, ask whoever runs the site.

What is not there, and do not go looking for it

The price benchmark tells you its own figures run high, and you should believe it

Open any tender and there is a band reading What this work usually goes for. It opens a member screen that reads the contract award archive against that one notice and shows what comparable work has actually been awarded for in that country: a median, the middle half, and the tenth to ninetieth percentile range. It is deliberately a spread and never a single number. It is part of the Insider plan, on the same key as buyer intelligence.

Before you price anything off it, read the warning it puts above the figures. There are 41 tenders on this book that both publish their own budget in dollars and reach a benchmark. On those 41 the published budget fell inside our middle half 13 times, where a well calibrated middle half would capture about half of them; it fell below our tenth percentile 10 times and above our ninetieth once; and the typical published budget was about four tenths of our median. The work in the archive is larger than the work on this book, so these figures run high. Nothing is corrected for that, because 41 comparisons is enough to warn you and nowhere near enough to correct for.

Two things it will not do, and both are answers rather than faults. It cannot tell you what the buyer running your tender pays: not one of the 789 buyers on this tender book appears in the award archive at all, because those awards name a borrowing government and its World Bank project. And it does not adjust for inflation, because the archive holds nothing to build an adjustment from. A cut of the last 36 months is offered beside the full figure and is labelled a cut.

Where the archive holds too few comparable awards, it says how many it holds and how many it wanted, and declines to state a price. That is the tool working.

If a tool refuses you

A refusal on this platform is meant to be readable. There are four kinds and it is worth telling them apart before you report a fault.

Not on your plan. The page loads, names the feature, describes it, and links to /pricing. No run button is drawn, so nothing can be spent by accident.
Not signed in. A card reading "Sign in to use", with a Sign in and a Create an account button and no input box.
Not enough to work from. The tool ran, found too little in the records, and says what it searched and what it found rather than writing a report out of nothing. This is a correct result.
Out of allowance. You have made your day's AI requests. It resets at midnight UTC.
