Zhang Lei

Zhang Lei is the founder and chairman of Hillhouse Capital Management, a private investment firm based in Singapore. Hillhouse focuses on investments in the consumer, industrials, healthcare, renewables, and business services sectors. The firm manages assets across private equity and venture capital, with a particular emphasis on Asia. Hillhouse's investment strategy includes early-stage, growth, late-stage, pre-IPO, and buyout investments. Zhang earned his B.A. in Economics from Renmin University and an M.B.A. and M.A. from Yale University. Before founding Hillhouse in 2005, he worked with Virginia-based investment firm EMM as a research analyst for the Yale Endowment and for the New York Stock Exchange. He currently serves as an advisor to the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, the Chairman of the Yale Asia Development Council, and a global co-chair of the Yale “For Humanity” campaign. He is a member of the Board of Directors for FCLT Global, an organization of asset owners and companies focused on long-term growth and decision-making. Under Zhang's leadership, Hillhouse has become one of the largest private investment platforms in Asia-Pacific, managing assets across private equity and venture capital. The firm's portfolio includes investments in various sectors, reflecting its diversified investment approach.
