About Union Bank of Nigeria
Union Bank of Nigeria PLC is one of Nigeria's oldest commercial banks, tracing its origins to 1917 as Colonial Bank, later acquired by Barclays Bank in 1925 and renamed Barclays Bank DCO (Dominion, Colonial and Overseas), before being Nigerianised and renamed Union Bank of Nigeria in 1979. The bank was historically one of the "Big Four" Nigerian banks. In 2023, Titan Trust Bank (controlled by TGI Group) acquired a controlling stake in Union Bank and subsequently announced a merger with Union Bank to consolidate the two entities. Union Bank operates across retail, corporate, and investment banking in Nigeria.
